Domain Authority Checker — Free Signals Report | ToolsHacks

Domain Signals Report

An honest look at what can actually be measured about a domain for free — SSL reachability, DNS records, response time and more. We will never invent a "DA score": real Domain Authority is a paid Moz metric.

⚠️ Our honesty promise: Domain Authority (DA) is Moz's proprietary 1–100 metric, calculated from their paid link index. Any free tool showing you an instant "DA 42" is estimating or fabricating it. This report shows only signals that can genuinely be measured from your browser — no fake scores, ever.

What we can't check for free (and won't fake)

  • Real Domain Authority / Page Authority — Moz's 1–100 scores, computed from their proprietary link index. Requires a paid Moz API key.
  • Backlink & referring-domain counts — live in paid databases (Ahrefs, Semrush, Majestic). Free tiers show only tiny samples.
  • Domain age & WHOIS history — registrars rate-limit WHOIS; full history is a paid product.
  • Spam score / toxic-link flags — proprietary paid metrics.
  • Organic traffic estimates — modeled by paid SEO platforms from clickstream data.
  • Redirect chains & response headers — browsers hide these cross-origin for security; check with curl -I in a terminal instead.
💡 Want your real DA? Use Moz Link Explorer (free limited searches) or Ahrefs' free backlink checker. Treat any other "free DA checker" number with skepticism.

How it works

  1. 1

Enter any domain — yours or a competitor's. Just the domain name; we strip any https:// or paths automatically.

  2. 2

We probe what's measurable — HTTPS reachability and response time are tested live from your browser; DNS records are fetched from a free public API.

  3. 3

Read the signals checklist — each signal is labeled Measurable, Limited or Unavailable, with a plain-English explanation of what it means.

  4. 4

Know the limits — the "can't check" section tells you exactly which metrics need paid tools, so you never act on a fabricated number.

Frequently asked questions

What is Domain Authority (DA)?

Domain Authority is Moz's 1–100 logarithmic score predicting how likely a domain is to rank in search results. It's calculated from Moz's own link index — including linking root domains and total links — and is a comparative metric, not a Google ranking factor.

Why don't you show a DA score like other free checkers?

Because we can't compute the real one. Genuine DA requires Moz's proprietary link data via their paid API. Free tools that display an instant DA are either showing a rough estimate or a made-up number. We'd rather show you five honest signals than one fake score.

What signals CAN be measured for free?

From a browser we can verify: whether the site answers over HTTPS (SSL working), how fast the homepage responds, and public DNS records (A, MX, NS, TXT). These are real technical health signals — useful, but not substitutes for authority metrics.

Does a fast, secure site mean high domain authority?

No. Speed and HTTPS are ranking-relevant hygiene factors, but authority comes from backlinks — other trusted sites vouching for you. A brand-new site can be blazing fast with perfect SSL and still have DA 1.

How do I check my real Domain Authority?

Use Moz's own Link Explorer (free for a limited number of searches) or the MozBar browser extension. Ahrefs' free backlink checker shows Domain Rating (DR), a similar authority metric. For ongoing tracking you'll need a paid plan.
