Measure how hard your money is working. Enter what you invested and what you got back to see net profit, ROI %, and — if you add a time period — your annualized return.
Add the holding period to also get your annualized return (CAGR).
📊 Simple vs. compound returns: ROI % shows total gain over the whole period (simple return). Annualized ROI (CAGR) smooths it into an equivalent per-year growth rate with compounding — the fair way to compare investments held for different lengths of time.
Enter your initial investment — the total amount you put in.
Enter the final value — what the investment is worth now, or total cash returned.
Optionally add the time period in years, then hit Calculate ROI for net profit, ROI %, and annualized return.
ROI = (final value − initial investment) ÷ initial investment × 100. Invest $10,000 and end with $14,500 and your ROI is 45%. Net profit is simply the final value minus what you put in.
CAGR — compound annual growth rate — converts a total return into an equivalent steady per-year rate: (final ÷ initial)^(1 ÷ years) − 1. A 45% total return over 3 years is about 13.2% annualized, which lets you fairly compare it against a 2-year or 10-year investment.
It depends on risk and time. The US stock market has averaged roughly 7–10% annualized over long periods. Anything consistently above that with similar risk is strong; for a business or ad campaign, many operators target 100%+ ROI (doubling their money) before scaling.
Yes. If the final value is less than what you invested, ROI is negative — you lost money. A −20% ROI on a $10,000 investment means you got back $8,000.
ROI measures return relative to what you invested; profit margin measures profit relative to revenue. A product can have a 30% margin but a 300% ROI if the capital turns over quickly — different questions, different formulas.
