How to use the Image Converter
- Drop an image onto the box, or click it to choose a file from your device.
- Choose the format to convert to: WebP, JPG or PNG.
- For JPG and WebP, set the quality. For JPG, pick the colour that fills transparent areas, since JPG has no transparency.
- Compare the previews, then click Download. The file keeps its original name with the new extension.
About this tool
Conversion runs in your browser with the canvas API, so your images never leave your device. WebP is usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality and is supported by every modern browser. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, which makes it best for logos and screenshots, while JPG is best for photos that need to open everywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No — conversion happens entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device, so it's safe for private or client work.
Why should I convert to WebP?
WebP files are much smaller than JPG or PNG at similar quality, so websites load faster, rank better in search, and use less of your visitors' mobile data.
Will transparency be preserved?
PNG and WebP preserve transparency. JPG does not support it — transparent areas become black, which is why we fill a white background for JPG output.
My browser says WebP output isn't supported — why?
Very old browsers can't encode WebP. Update to a recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari and try again.
